Photo Challenge Day 10-18

Wine Country

After months and months of planning & waiting our Wine Country trip was finally here! We had been planning for so long to go celebrate Matt's 30th Birthday and Dad's retirement! This is a trip I have wanted to do for some time now so I was beyond thrilled with the idea! We all flew out at various time Thursday morning and met up at the hotel. Once we all dropped our bags we headed to one of Dad's favorite spots for an Irish Coffee...The Buena Vista Cafe. After enjoying our first cocktail of the trip we walked around a bit. Leah & I ducked into In-N-Out Burger to share a tasty burger since we hadn't eaten since breakfast while the rest found a watering hole. Then it was time to head to meet our cousin Mary & her now finance (so happy for them) Cameron for dinner at Sotto Mare! We had a great time catching up and eating great seafood! After dinner it was back to the hotel where Vince, Matt & I had a quick nightcap before heading to bed.

Friday morning we grabbed a quick bite and headed to Uncle Johns house to get him and head to Wine Country! John had set up a great day in Sonoma for us at his favorite wineries. Our first stop was Passalacqua Winery. Vince & I have been enjoying their wine for a few years now as Uncle John sends to to KC for Christmas/Ravioli Dinner/Family Gatherings. Its one of my favorites and it always makes me think of family. Passalacqua is a beautiful setting we had an amazing tasting and promptly joined their wine club! I can't wait for November to get here for our first shipment!

Our second stop was Stuhlmuller Vineyards which we had a great tasting with amazing cheese plates! It is so neat to see the different landscapes and learn about each of the wines and what makes them unique.

After Stuhlmuller we grabbed a quick sandwich at Jimtown. Its the awesome little general store with great food!

Then we were off to our third stop of the day Seghesio. We got to go down into their wine cellar for the tasting which was nice and cool. It was a nice treat to cool off! And to see hundreds of barrels of wine! After our tasting we had a quick picnic and headed off to our last stop.

Copain was our last stop and again we had a great tasting and loving meat & cheese plates! The view there was amazing. I feels like a little slice of heaven or at least what I imagine heaven to look like!

After our final tasting we headed back to San Francisco and enjoyed a tasy dinner before crashing into bed!

Saturday morning Mom, Dad, Patrick & Matt headed to Alcatrez. Vince & I had already done that tour on a previous trip so we had breakfast with Uncle John before heading back to wine country. After talking with John and some of the people at the wineries we had been at the previous day we decided not to go to Napa (the Sonoma locals refer to it as "Hollywood Wine Country") and go back to Sonoma. Had we had more time we would have loved to go scope out Napa but Sonoma treated us so good the day before we wanted to go back! Next trip out we will do Napa! We headed to a few little store fronts for tasting s and then we were refereed to Trattore Estate Vineyard. It was amazing! My second fav by far! The view was amazing and the wine was great too! We met the owner and got to chat with him for awhile. I could have stayed there all day if everyone else would have let me! But soon enough it was time to head back to San Francisco for dinner. Patrick & Leah had dinner plans with some of Leah's family and the rest of us had dinner plans at The Hayes Street Grill with Uncle John & Jon. It was a great way to end our trip!

And thanks to our friends who let us borrow their "wine suitcase" we were able to bring a full case of souvenirs home! Can't wait to open these bottles and reminise about our trip! And a huge thank you to Maria for watching the kids-we never had to worry once about them!
