TWINkle TWINkle Little Star

It didn't take me long to pick the babies 1st birthday party theme. I thought a Twinkle Twinkle theme would be a lot of fun! Stars-Golds-Silvers! And it just so happens that twinkle has the word twin in it-just a happy coincidence! I had great plans for this party but having 3 kids is busy, having a new house is busy, life is just busy around the Rupp house these days. So only about half of my grand plans actually got done. But that's ok-I think it was a great party! As usual I had a great time making party decor. I even got to try out glitter spray paint-that was a first! We kept everything pretty simple with just stars and a gold & silver & white color scheme. I opted to give a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star book to each family instead of doing the traditional goody bag. But I did kept with tradition and hung up their 12 months of monthly pictures and their "year of firsts".

As far a food was concerned I tried to keep in simple. I tried my hand at icing sugar cookies-definitely don't come close to Aunt Joie's but I tried. We had kid cups with fruit & goldfish that were a big hit. And for the grown-ups we had a few dips and star cheese & crackers. Vince made sure we had plenty of beer, wine & water on hand. And Ben helped set up the juice boxes!
When it came time to discuss the cakes (yes plural-we needed a big cake and 2 small cakes for the babies). Vince insisted on baking the cakes, making the icing and icing the cakes. I said that's a lot of work but ok. All he asked was that I decorate them after he iced them. I got off easy! I found these awesome edible tiny silver & gold stars to decorate with! Vince did such a great job! They looked good & tasted real good!
The moment I decided on the theme I knew exactly what I wanted their birthday shirts to look like. Then is was just a matter of either making them myself or finding someone on etsy. In the end it was a combo of an etsy seller helping design it and me actually making it. I found Abby the perfect tutu with just enough gold in it!
We had a great turnout for the party! A big thank you to everyone who came to help the babies celebrate the big O-N-E! It truly means a great deal to Vince & I. It was a great warm & sunny March day so the big kids got to play outside which was perfect! Cake time was the highlight of the party for sure! The babies loved everyone singing and really enjoyed their cakes! Big thanks to Patrick and Meredith for helping us capture some great picture! (If anyone by chance took a video of that please send it to us! Vince & I didn't video it...parenting fail)
By the time the babies finished their cake and had quick sink baths it was the time that we would normally do presents but KU was playing in the Big 12 Tournament Championship Game and our house was full of Jayhawks who were anxious to watch the game. So we decided to hold off on presents. A lot of people left but my parents, brothers and a few friends stayed for the game so we ordered pizza and watched KU loose. The babies were in bed by half time so we decided we'd open gifts the next morning!
So Will wasn't in the best of moods the next morning-I think he was still trying to recover from the festivities the day before! He didn't have as much fun as Abby did opening gifts but I think he still enjoyed himself! Thank you to everyone for your generous gifts! Abby & Will have been very busy learning how to write thank-you notes!
