Abby's 6 Month Heart Check

Abby had her 6 month cardiology check up a few weeks back. We had a slight scheduling mishap and ended up seeing a different doctor. We saw Dr. Birnbaum-I was kind of excited to see someone else to get their take on the situation. First Abby had her echo which she did great in. She fell asleep about 10 minutes into it! Then we saw Dr. Birnbaum. He said that things are status quo. We talked about the potential of surgery and the hows, whens, and whys. The safest way would be using a catheter through her thigh the only problem is that the catheter only comes in one size so we need our tiny Abby to do some big growing so her veins are bigger and her heart will be larger. So we have a few more years before we have to do the surgery. Dr. Birnbaum assured us yet again that she is just fine and has no restrictions. She can run and chase her brothers around and we don't have to worry. He said the issues with her heart would become a real issue when she's in her 20's or 30's so that made me feel better that we know about it now and it will be fixed long before she's even in grade school. So for now we just continue to monitor her every 3 months at Children's Mercy.
