And The Babies Are...

Last Thursday we had a doctors appointment. I had been nervous for days about this appointment because I knew that the babies genders would be confirmed! Around 12 weeks our ultrasound tech gave us her guesses...Baby A was looking like a GIRL and Baby B was a BOY! I will admit I had tears in my eyes when she said B was a boy! But I was scared to death of the prospect of A being a girl. I've always imagined myself as a mom to boys-I never saw our life with a little girl in it. But as the days went by and some pink items would find their way into my shopping cart the idea grew on me! Ever since the talk of baby #2 came up Vince has said we need to have a girl so we have someone to take care of us when we get old! So when I was laying on the table Thursday and the ultrasound was just getting started the tech said B is for sure BOY! Again I had tears in my eyes! And a few minutes later she got the shot of A and yep A is a GIRL. I asked how sure she was on both the sexes and she said 100% so looks like we are having 1 of each! And now I can't even imagine it any other way! We are so excited to have one of each! So we know for sure now that the babies are fraternal so that's a huge relief to confirm we have the safest type of twin pregnancy. Each baby was measuring perfectly where they should be and each weighs in at 4 ounces. A & B definitely know that the other is there they are only separated by a super thin membrane so they can easily feel each other. Towards the end of my ultrasound B was kicking A in the face...poor girl doesn't know what she has coming with having 2 brothers. Both babies have all 4 chambers of their hearts, stomachs, bladders, eyes, ears, noses, fingers, toes, arms, legs and 2 halves of their brains. We will know more in a few weeks when we go for out anatomy scan which will look at every single part of each baby. But so far so good!

Dr. P says everything is looking absolutely great. All my blood work has been perfect as well as all the things they look at during the ultrasounds! She said to be prepared to grow through a "big" growth spurt in the next week or so. The babies will double their weight during this spurt! My morning sickness is finally starting to ease up. I have more good days than bad so that has been a very welcomed change! I'm hoping to be off the last of the morning sickness medicine by next week!

                                                                Baby Girl (A)
                                                               Baby Boy (B)

Names...Everyone has been asking us about their names! Yes they both have names and No we aren't telling! I will tell you B's name had been decided on our last trip to Marco during one of those "if we ever do have another kid and its a boy lets name him________" conversations. And A's name we figured we would just use our girl name from when I was pregnant with Ben but we just didn't like it as much as we did 3 years ago. So as we randomly threw out names one just stood out and that was that.

Happy Halloween!

Halloween was pretty low key this year. After school Vince took Ben to Corinth to trick or treat and he got to see Grandma Marq which made him very happy! After a quick dinner of meatball grinders we headed out the door to trick or treat our block. Sadly there weren't a lot of houses "open" so we did the next block over too. About half way down the second block Ben was worn out and said he was ready to go home. We didn't take the wagon since we thought we were only doing our block so the kid was beat! After we got home Ben dumped his candy out and was under the impression that he could just sit there and eat all of it. So needless to say he was not happy when I took his candy and put him in the bath. The funny thing is that he hasn't asked for it since!

Pumpkin Carving 2013

Wednesday night we carved our pumpkins Ben loved coloring on the pumpkins and using his "shovel" to clean out the inside. He was very interested in what we were going to do with the seeds. After we finished up the carving we roasted the pumpkin seeds and believe it or not our little picky eater tried and loved them!

Arm Update # 5

Wednesday we had another doctors appointment for Ben. At his last appointment they told us the cast would be coming off so we were more prepared than last time. We made sure Vince would be able to attend and I made sure to have his lovey and blanket with us. We also talked about what was going to happen so Ben was more prepared. But as much prep work as we did it was still bad. Ben screamed bloody murder the whole time they cut the cast off. Poor guy. Thankfully it doesn't take very long. After the cast came off and we got a look at his poor little arm. His skin looked awful and he has a sore on the inside of his elbow. Then is was off to x-ray and off to our room. Vince was the brave on and washed his arm like they told us to do. Ben was a trooper and didn't cry! Ben's NP Angela came in and said it was looking great! The clean break was totally healed and the bad break looked pretty good. But the next step was undecided-put another hard cast on, do nothing, use a splint or put a soft cast on for 10 more days just to be safe. She went to get Dr Latz and after much discussion we all decided that he is still a clumsy toddler who falls daily that a soft cast would give us a few more days of healing. The great news with the soft cast is that while it looks like a hard cast it is more flexible and next week I just peel it off! Ben picked red to match his up coming fire truck birthday party! We have to go back on the 20th for hopefully our last check-up to ensure he is using his arm as he should be.

Trick or Treat

Last Sunday we went to Fairway's Trick or Treat! GG and Uncle Matt joined us which made Ben very happy! Ben got to color pumpkins, eat yummy snacks and play fun games for prizes! Ben is already asking if he can go back!

Rock Chalk Jayhawk

Last Saturday was Ben's 1st KU football game! Kansas was playing Baylor and we all know how that game went but we still had fun! We headed up to Lawrence early so we could grab dinner. After much debate the pregnant wife won and we ended up at El Mezcal. Mmmmm...Cheese Dip! After dinner we headed to the stadium luckily we had an awesome parking pass! Ben sat for a good 5 minutes just taking it all in. It was really cute as he cheered on the Jayhawks! He of course requested cotton candy which he and Vince had to track down on the other side of the stadium. Then he was on a sugar high and needed to burn off some steam so I took him on a walk which we then somehow ended up bringing a funnel cake and hot chocolate back to our seats! Right before half time Ben was d.o.n.e and said he wanted to go home. So we headed back to KC. I think he will enjoy going to a basketball game in a few weeks better since it will be warmer and the fact that he loves basketball!

Half Marathon

Vince ran his first 1/2 marathon on October 19th! My cousin Bryan and both of Vince's sisters ran the full marathon and Vince'e cousin Marci ran the half as well! Ben & I went downtown to cheer him on and watch him cross the finish line! Vince finished in under 2 hours and got to run a good half of his race with Angela & Carrie! After Vince finished we went to grab breakfast and wait for word that the others finished the marathon. Bryan, Angela & Carrie all finished in under 4 hours which is awesome! They didn't know it while racing but Bryan was about 10 minutes ahead of the girls! Such awesome accomplishments for all of them!
